原文

Long ago, there was a fox, which was smart and cunning. Even the most astute hunters couldn't catch it. One day, it saw a crow with a huge piece of meat in its beak, which it had somehow obtained. The fox was salivating at the sight of it. Noticing that the crow wouldn't be able to finish the meat in a short while, the fox came up with a brilliant idea. It pretended to flatter the crow. The fox said, "Mr. Crow, you are so smart to have stolen such a big piece of meat from the hunter's kitchen." The crow was very happy upon hearing this and just as it opened its mouth to modestly reply, the meat dropped to the ground. The fox snatched up the meat and ran away in a flash, leaving the regretful crow cursing it from the tree.

Long ago, there was a fox, wise and cunning in its wile. Even the most astute hunters could not catch it. One day, it espied a crow with a great piece of flesh clasped in its beak, which it had somehow acquired. The fox did salivate at the sight thereof. Noticing that the crow would not be able to consume the meat in short while, the fox devised a cunning plan. It feigned to flatter the crow. The fox spake thus: "Mr. Crow, thou art so wise to have thieved such a grand piece of meat from the hunter's larder." At this word, the crow was filled with joy and just as it opened its mouth to reply modestly, the meat fell to the ground. The fox seized upon the meat and scampered away in haste, leaving the regretful crow cursing from above.
