Lord Robert Shaw of Newton, and his Heirs Male and Female of his Blood
AND WHEREAS in his sorrow, the said Lord Shaw did gather herbs from their grave — namely nettle, lavender, chamomile, and sage — and did dry them and bind them in linen cut from their burial shrouds, to be burned as a memorial at the hour of their death;
AND WHEREAS this act was done without drunkenness, without witchcraft, without the seeking of visions or dreams, and was followed immediately by charitable service to the poor and wounded;
AND WHEREAS the Parish Priest and the Bishop’s Examiner have tested the said herbs and found no power in them to alter the mind, cause sleep, or induce prophecy, but only to make smoke;
NOW THEREFORE, by the authority vested in this Court by God and the King, to the Shaw family
