The Gentle Lord

[14] Hē wæs milde þām gōdum mannum þe God lufodon and ofer eall ġemett stearc þām mannum þe wiðcwǣdon his willan. [15] On ðām ilcan stede þe God him ġeūðe þæt hē mōste Englaland ġegān, hē ārǣrde mǣre mynster and munecas þǣr ġesette and hit well ġegōdade. [16] On his dagum wæs þæt mǣre mynster on Cantwarebyriġ ġetymbrad and ēac swīðe maniġ ōðer ofer eall Englaland.

He was gentle to the good men who loved God and very stern to those men who opposed his will. In the same place that God granted him to go to England, he raised a great monastery and established monks there, and it flourished well. In his days, that great monastery in Canterbury was built and also many others throughout all of England.
