O King, Do You See

"Geseoh þu, cyning, hwelc þes lar sie, þe us nu bodad is. Ic þe soðlice andette þæt ic cuðlice geleomad hæbbe, þæt eallinga nawiht mægenes ne nyttnes hafað sio æfestness, þe we oð ðis hæfdon and beedon. Forðon nænig þinra þegna neodlicor ne gelustfullicor hine sylfne underþeodde to ura goda bigange þonne ic; and noht þon læs monige syndon, þa þe maran sefe and fremmsumnesse æt þe onfengon þonne ic, and in eallum þingum maran gesynto hæfdon.
Hwæt ic wat, gif ure goda ænige mihte hæfdon, þonne woldan hie me ma fultumian, forþon ic him geornlicor þeodde and hyrde. Forþon me þynceð wilsic, gif þu geseo þa þing beteran and strangran þe us niwan bodad syndon, þæt we þam onfon."

Do you see, king, what this teaching is that has been proclaimed to us now? I truly confess to you that I have knowingly sung that the holy faith, which we had and prayed for up to this point, bears no benefit of might at all. Therefore, none of your thanes more needfully or desirably submitted themselves to our gods' service than I; and yet there are not so few who have received greater ease and goodness from you than I, having in all things held greater health.
What I know is that if our gods had any power at all, they would help me more, for I serve them willingly as their folk and shepherd. Therefore it seems desirable to me if you should see the better and stronger things that are newly proclaimed to us, that we may receive those.
