The King's Wise Man Speaks

Þæs wordum oþer cyninges wita and ealdormann gehafunge sealde, and to þære spræce feng and þus cwæð: "Þyslic me is gesewen, þu cyning, þis andwearde lif manna on eorðan to wiomætensse þære tide, þe us uncúð is, swylc swa þu æt swæsendum sitte mid þinum ealdormannum and þegnum on wintertide, and sie fyr onæled and þin heall gewyrmed, and hit rine and sniwe and styrme ute

Another of the king's wise men and elder had given heed, and to that speech he seized upon and thus spoke: "This is seen by me, O king, this present life of men on earth to be a vast wonder at the time which is unknown to us, just as thou dost sit at feasts with thy elders and thanes in wintertime, and there is fire kindled in thy hall, and it rains and snows and storms outside.
