fram deofle costud;
and þa þa he fæste feowurtig daga and feorurtig nihta þa

Then was the Savior led from the Spirit into the wilderness: that he might be tempted by the devil; and when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, then afterward he hungered. And then came the tempter and said. If thou be the Son of God, say that these stones be made bread. Then answered the Savior; It is written: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
