The King's Response

Þa se cyning þa þas word gehyrde, þa andswarode he him and cwæð, þæt he ægþwær ge wolde ge sceolde þam geleafan onfon start þe he lærde. Cwæð hwæðere, þæt he wolde mid his freondum and mid his wytum gesprec and gehæht habban, þæt gif hi mid hine þæt gefadian woldan, þæt hi ealle ætsonne on lifes willan Criste gehalgade wæran. Þa dyde se cyning swa swa he cwæð, and se bisceop þæt gefæhðade.
Þa hæfde he gesprec and gehæht mid his wítum and syndriglice wæs fram him eallum frignende, hwylc him þuhte and gesæwen wære þes niwe lar and þære godcundnesses bigong, þe þær læred wæs. Him þa andswarode his ealdorbisceop, Cefi wæs haten:

When the king heard these words, he answered him and said that he would anywhere accept the faith which he had been taught. He said however, that he would speak with his friends and with his wise men and promised that if they wished to partake with him in this, they all together would be consecrated to Christ at life's will. Then the king did as he said, and the bishop confirmed it.
Then he had spoken and promised with his wise men, and especially was from him all inquiring what seemed to them wonderful and seen was this new teaching and the divine calling which there was taught. Then answered him his archbishop, named Cefi:
